A friend from Zweibrucken

Facebook is kind of interesting in that you never know who you may find, or who may find you.  Yesterday I got a friend request from my best friend from fourth grade.  (I should point out that I wasn't living in this country at that time, and fourth grade was a long time ago.)  

I only signed up for Facebook to begin with because my friend Lorraine wanted me to look at some images she had posted.  When I started adding friends, I specifically searched for Tracy but she hadn't signed up.  I gather she signed up shortly after I did.

I love it when technology becomes a tool to help connect people.  And, I'm glad to have connected again with a dear friend from my past.

something special in the mail

Today was a good day to get a surprise in the mail.  I was lucky enough to win a book from Carl after he offered up his copy of this book after he reviewed it on his blog.  I'm looking forward to reading it...maybe I can turn a few pages when I'm on vacation next week! 

the best boss in the world

Things have been approaching critical mass here, particularly since Thursday of last week.  In general it's been hard to get much done at work and my boss has been verrrrry understanding.  Right now something is going to explode if I don't take some time off, might be the youngster, might be me, might be both.  I called the office to see if there was a window of opportunity to take some time off soon...turns out next week is good and my vacation request is approved.  I'm not planning any projects, not planning any big cleaning tasks.  My only plan is to take some deep breaths, get the youngster to a few appointments and hope that we can get some equilibrium.

details...I need details

I got a call yesterday from Hotmama saying she was at the store-that-shall-not-be-named just outside of Detroit.  I heard just enough to learn she was glad she went but then the call was dropped and I didn't hear any details!  It's like watching a movie and missing the ending.  I want to hear what she bought (surely she bought something) and she surely must have plans to go back for something else.

I'm blaming this on Carl

Have you tried the new M&M's dark chocolate?  I hadn't even heard of them until last week when Carl commented on them.  While I was at the grocery store (Wal-Mart) this weekend I was browsing the chocolate aisle and found some.  They are quite satisfactory.  I might have a problem here.

Someone fabulous (Linda) sent me a completed room (for the Barbie house project) last week!  And, as if that were not exciting enough, my family hooked me up with a digital camera this year so I have pictures of the room!  Behold...

I wish you a hot chocolate...

For this to be effective one must think of the music for We wish you a Merry Christmas, then substitute I wish you a hot chocolate, I wish you a hot chocolate...well, it seemed cute when I thought of it.  My thoughts this morning are with my friends and family in the midwest who are having an "unprecedented winter weather event" according to Mosker's post yesterday.  Hope you are warm and toasty, with a steaming mug of hot chocolate to help chase the chill away.

When Nichole was here on Sunday she commented that she missed our mutual young friend Lisa who moved away in June.  I used to have Lisa come over for play dates so that she could try out the girls' room and give me ideas for how to improve it.  She would bring her baby doll over and that led me to buying baby dolls, as well as doll clothes, stroller, bed, accessories, etc.  She loved playing "kitchen" so I bought a ton of play food, pots and pans, tea set, etc.  She loved the Barbies so...well, you get the picture.  I miss her too.

Nichole is looking for work

Lately the summer heat has just sucked the enthusiasm out of me for any kind of yard work but I really want to get things in order before the rainy season starts.  I always seem to get more done when I have help but as it happens my brother got a teaching job so my favorite helper is not available. 

As luck would have it I got a call from my young friend Nichole who is looking for some folding money for a concert she plans to attend, and she asked if I have any work for her.  Oh yeah!  I talked her into coming over next Sunday  for a few hours.  Between the two of us we should be able to get some things whipped back into shape so I'm happy.

She called me later in the day to ever-so-gently ask if I would let everyone know about her desire to work so here it is.  I did tell her that most of my readers are waaaaaay out of the area, state and even country but I figure nothing ventured, nothing gained.  So, I'll vouch for her if you want to hire her.  She says she'll do anything (well, not anything if you get my meaning).
